Service Description
Join our Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT) group training sessions that run Wednesdays at 18h30 Irish time for 1.5 hours (Zoom); to learn and practice the core skills designed to reduce maladaptive overcontrol and to cultivate greater openness, flexibility, and authentic social connection. RO-DBT is an evidence-based treatment created by Dr. Thomas Lynch for individuals who struggle with excessive self-control—often presenting as perfectionism, rigidity, inhibited emotional expression, social isolation, or chronic loneliness. In this group, you will be guided through the full RO-DBT skills curriculum, including: • Mindfulness for Receptivity & Openness – learning to shift out of Fixed and Fatalistic Mind and into Flexible Mind; practicing “self-enquiry,” cultivating curiosity, and strengthening awareness of internal signals. • Openness & Feedback – developing willingness to learn from others, practicing radical openness, and reducing defensive patterns that block intimacy and growth. • Social Signaling Skills – understanding how subtle nonverbal behaviors communicate safety or threat; practicing actively communicating emotions, softening facial expressions, and using “kind eyes” to increase social connectedness. • Engagement & Courage – increasing willingness to take healthy risks, explore new behaviors, and step toward valued goals even when anxiety or uncertainty show up. • Reinforcement of Novel Behavior – learning how to positively reinforce flexibility, spontaneity, and behaviors that foster connection rather than control. • Loving-Kindness & Compassion Practices – cultivating warmth toward yourself and others to counter chronic self-criticism or emotional inhibition. Each session integrates psychoeducation, experiential exercises, skills practice, role-plays, and real-life homework, allowing you to gradually unlearn overcontrolled patterns and replace them with more open, expressive, and socially engaged ways of being. By participating, you will build skills that help you: • Reduce rigid perfectionism and excessive self-control • Increase emotional expression and authenticity • Strengthen your ability to form meaningful relationships • Improve flexibility, spontaneity, and resilience • Experience more joy and connection in daily life This group offers a safe, supportive environment where you can practice new behaviors, challenge unhelpful habits, and reconnect with your natural capacity for playfulness, warmth, and openness.
